Inside Out is The Opportunity’s international partnership project on outdoor training for young immigrants. Immigrants and their counsellors from Germany, Ireland and Iceland have been training here in Iceland from 23 to 30 April. It has been absolutely amazing — wonderful weather and a unique atmosphere.
We had an international outdoor guru, Gerrit Onstein, and the Icelandic outdoor instructor Inga Ævarsdóttir. We were also joined online by Iceland’s new doctor of outdoor studies, Dr. Jakob Frímann Þorsteinsson. My sister Hrönn and I took care of the cooking at Úlfljótsvatn, and once got a swimming break while people grilled over a fire lit without ordinary fire-starters. I don’t know what else to say but thank you #Erasmusplus and #Rannís for believing in the project. It isn’t over yet: this autumn we will present the results. Before the outdoor training we ran surveys in the three countries, held in-depth interviews with experts and discussed the topic with the target group in focus groups.
Yes, this is for real, and now I feel every moment of all the preparation and paperwork was worth it. All I have is one big 😉 — it helped to have one positive heavy-metal house elf (see the photo) and all the other wonderful characters.
