What we do

Course in Reykjavík

A six-week course for young people of foreign origin who want to enter the Icelandic labour market — in cooperation with the Directorate of Labour.

The course

Icelandic society and the labour market

The Opportunity offers a six-week course on Icelandic society and the labour market, together with individual and group work on the personal challenges of young people.

We teach you how Icelandic society and the labour market work, help you write a good CV and cover letter, and practise job interviews. You also get support with your job search. At the same time we work with you as a person — your strengths, challenges and well-being — through mental, physical and social training.

Classes are on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 to 15:00. A light lunch is offered to participants.

Vocational training

Investing in young talent

We work with a diverse group of people from working life who are determined to invest in young talent. Our vocational training is a partnership between The Opportunity and the employers who hire our participants. The Opportunity follows people up in the labour market for at least three months.

So far our participants have worked on rebuilding houses, at a farm hotel and in outdoor farm work. They have also worked in car repairs and electrical work. We have also taken on socially important projects, such as preparing homes for Ukrainian refugees.

Outdoors and exercise

Outdoor activities and exercise (such as walks, hikes and swimming), healthy food and fun shared experiences are an important part of our approach. We want to use our time out in nature and enjoy all the benefits that come with it.

Every course ends with a horse-riding trip.

“I was happy with everything, we worked, we learned a lot, I suffered from anxiety but it disappeared, the best thing that happened to me in Iceland, perfect, I would recommend the resort to everyone.”
